40 West Arts District Street Fair!
April 27th Opening Party. Thanks for coming for the fun!
Mark your calendars! June 2013 will be a month full of color, energy and recycled art!
40 West Arts and District Partners have joined together to create exciting, theme-related events and programs for Lakewood’s INSPIRE cultural programming in June. The wide range of events, spanning from art and music to writing, fashion and more, revolve around a dual theme: Recycled Art & Vivid Color.
Don’t miss the Recycled Art & Vivid Color Exhibition. This juried exhibition, on display at 40 West Gallery, will feature artwork that showcases vibrant color and art that captures the beauty of repurposed and reinvented ”trash.” This theme was inspired by the work of Nick Cave, whose show opens at the Denver Art Museum in June. - http://www.denverartmuseum.org/exhibitions/nick-cave
The opening of this exhibition will take place on Friday, June 7th, from 4-7pm and run for three consecutive weekends: June 8-9, 15-16, and 22-23 (12-4pm). The show will include a range of media including painting, 3-D, digital video, photography, mixed media and textiles.
The Everything Gallery is also hosting the Everything Recycled Art Market on June 8 and 9. Located at A&E's warehouse at 7175 W. 16th Place, it's just steps away from the 40 West Gallery! Join the Recycled Art Movement and take advantage of the unique opportunities to explore the world of recycled art.
The weekend highlight will be the Trash Fashion Show, June 8th at 1pm, at 1560 Teller Street on The Edge Theater stage. The featured fashion pieces will be original and at least 75% recycled or reused materials that otherwise would have been “trash.” If you’ve ever seen recycled fashion, you know how amazing these creative designs are. Categories for both youth and adults will be awarded.
There’s something for book (art) lovers and writers too! The Lakewood Library is sponsoring an Altered Book Display and Competition on June 5th, and presenting an exciting creative writing seminar, “Painting a Story in Color with Words” – learn how descriptive writing can transform any story with best-selling author Elizabeth Wrenn!
