Japanese Calligraphy is an art form that translates the calligrapher's concentrated yet fluid execution of characters in a moment of time. This introductory workshop will introduce the basic strokes to construct Chinese characters (Kanji) and Kana letters (Japanese alphabets derived from Kanji) and provide instruction on how the harmony of strokes is achieved. You will be challenged by the repeated practice of brush strokes and yet will explore the world of beauty in black & white with calligraphy brushes. This is a 2-part workshop. Your workshop fee pays for BOTH dates. Workshop Fee: $65/ gallery member, $75/non-member * minimum 4, max 8 people *the fee includes sumi-ink, hanshi rice papers, felt mat and newsprint papers used in the classroom. Brushes can be borrowed during the workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own brushes. CONTACT info@40westarts.org to reserve a spot and to pay. Course instructor is Mamiko Ikeda.
